Woo Qiyun is a third-year undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Geography specialization) at the National University of Singapore, University Scholars Programme. She has a strong track record in leadership, environmentalism and social entrepreneurship, and her key interests lie in corporate sustainability, social and eco-entrepreneurship, conservation and sustainable consumerism.

With a vision to enact environmental change, Qiyun sought opportunities that would boost her skill sets. She has participated in numerous sustainabilityrelated competitions such as the Singapore Frontier Challenge held by NUS, where her team emerged as finalists. Others include the SembCorp Green Wave 2018 competition and the CDL E-generation Competition 2018. She was also a youth participant in the Global Youth Summit held by Hemispheres Foundation. In line with this interest in the global scene, she was also one of the 1000 selected participants in the international social incubator, UNLEASH Singapore 2018, where her team worked on solutions to tackle Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

Qiyun’s environmental knowledge extends to the global sphere where she represented Singapore at the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights Conference, during which she learnt about environmental damage as a human rights violation and engaged in debates with youths from the region. She will soon take up the role of Singapore Youth Representative to the 2018 APEC Edutainment Exchange Programme to learn about inclusive and sustainable growth in the region.

Currently, Qiyun is a part time Community Lead at a locally-based social enterprise, Green is the New Black, where she works on the artistic experience of their upcoming Conscious Festival as well as develop content and assist with the strategic work of the company.

She hopes to continue to play an active role in her local environment community and serve in whatever capacity she can.

For her outstanding leadership and contributions to the environment, Woo Qiyun is awarded the 2018 HSBC/NYAA Youth Environmental Award.
